To link dentistry with Thailand seems the natural thing to do – in the Land of Smiles, as Thailand is known, the intrinsic value of a smile is a given among the Thais.

You’ll certainly find plenty of smiles in the country, whether they come from the taxi driver that takes you from the airport to town, the retail assistants in the shopping malls, or the staff in dental clinics. The challenge for dental professionals is to make those smiles even more beautiful!

But it’s no secret that Thailand is among the most promising countries in terms of growth in the regional dental industry. At the APDC 2008 in Bangkok last May, for instance, the turnout by conference delegates was huge, and it saw the trade exhibition hall buzzing with business.

Then you have a prominent dental professional in Thailand who’s not only committed to creating beautiful smiles, but also to bringing the level of dentistry to even greater heights. Dr Soonthorn Asavanant, head of Asavanant Dental Clinic (see Asia’s Leading Dental Centres section, page 39), has surged ahead with the opening of his new, five-storey facility, dedicated to providing only top-class dental services. All things considered, it’s a major achievement for a dental professional in Asia.

Thanks to the open nature of the Internet, the whole publication is now easily accessible by dental professionals anywhere in Asia, as well as the world, where the print edition may not reach. This development has far-reaching implications, chief among which is extending the exposure of DPN Magazine among dental professionals.

While the postal services may still pose challenges in some remote areas of the region, the availability of the magazine online will address this issue to a great extent.
